Meet Team AVEX

Scott Saylor's PhotoScott Saylor is the principal owner/photographer of AVEX Photographic and is the public persona of the company. Scott holds a BFA and an MFA in photography, and is a full time photography instructor with Fairfax County Public Schools at South County secondary school. He has had a passion for Hotrods, Muscle cars, and all forms of racing, especially drag racing since childhood. He has been a photographer since 1982 and has photographed many famous racers, teams and stars in the Winston Cup series, Busch Grand National, and Hooters Pro Cup series. Scott has shot many local short tracks for Late Model racer magazine capturing the local talent in late model stock car series also. Now his passion has drawn him to photographing Drag Racing.

1969 Ford Galaxy When not creating new images for the business Scott enjoys driving his 1969 Galaxie 500 sportsroof coupe. The 429 4V hauls the mail and can be seen at the track from time to time. She ran a 9.957 at Old Dominion Drag Strip; not bad for a 4300 lb car!

Scott Saylor’s Motto: Walk with anyone, talk with anyone.

John GonsalvesJohn Gonsalves is a man of many talents with a camera and a computer. Referred to by Scott as “the technical genius” of AVEX Photographic, he has decades of experience capturing many types of photographic subjects and in the “business” of photography. A working professional photographer since 1970 he has over 20 years experience shooting for the military and has owned and operated Gonsalves Photography in Alexandria, VA since 1978. His studio, Gonsalves Photography provides exquisite photography at reasonable prices for weddings and social events, as well as, portraits of children, seniors, individuals, and families in his studio.

John is a Certified Professional Photographer by the Professional Photographers of America and a member of the Virginia Professional Photographers Association. While you won’t often see him in our booth, you will probably see John in action perched on his shooting ladder getting incredible photos of the cars and motorcycle riders.  John is always happiest being behind the lens, working his magic. “Let’s work dude.”

Mark SaylorMark Saylor is AVEX Photography’s third photographer. It just so happens he is Scott Saylor’s first cousin. Mark has a vast amount of experience in photography. He has been shooting commercially since 1977.  He has spent many years shooting for various publications and fine art events. Mark holds a B.S. degree in photography. He attended Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara California. Mark has a knack for trying new techniques and creating incredible motion shots of cars and motorcycles; especially during the night races. Mark tends to shoot in his own unique style that AVEX customers really enjoy and have come to expect from us. Mark also leaves the business of selling to Scott Saylor. When he is not shooting for AVEX he enjoys working with imaging on computers.

Sonya SaylorSonya Saylor, Scott’s wife, is the business guru for the team.  She is often seen at the track working our booth, greeting customers, handling sales and orders, but spends many more hours keeping the books straight. You might see her with Buster or a bottle of Corona on a hot day if you come by often.
